From Traditional Models to the Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Mediator Training

Abstract

This article, of a theoretical nature and from a critical approach, analyzes the transformation of training into mediation, linking traditional theoretical models with the irruption of artificial intelligence. After reviewing the classic pedagogical bases centered on communication, AI is examined as a disruptive tool that surpasses the concept of ODR (online dispute resolution), acting as an agent capable of processing data and suggesting solutions. A hybrid model is proposed that integrates algorithmic technical efficiency with human socio-emotional skills. Finally, it is concluded that the biggest challenge for training centers is to guarantee technical ethics and neutrality in the face of security, essential elements in the curriculum of a contemporary mediator. 

Author Biography

Andrés Vázquez López, Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, España

He is a mediator, holds a Master’s degree in Mediation, and is a university-accredited specialist in Civil and Commercial Mediation, Family Mediation, and Intercultural and Immigration Mediation, as well as an expert in Mediation via Electronic Means and Online Dispute Resolution. He studied law at the University of Santiago de Compostela and at the National University of Distance Education, Spain. He is a teaching collaborator on the UNED’s Modular Course in Mediation, where he coordinates the modules on Electronic Mediation, Intercultural and Immigration Mediation, and Mediation in Violent Conflicts. He has participated in conferences and projects aimed at implementing virtual mediation platforms for conflict resolution, as well as in the international training of professional mediators in electronic mediation.
