Research, aims to develop theoretical contributions that support the interconnections between empathy in healthcare and the rights of patients, understood as the rights that all people have when they are under healthcare. It is known that, in view of the historical medical paternalism and the removal of the patient from the care centre, a patient law is not easy to implement. Therefore, I conclude that the movement around empathy is an ally in the fulfilment of patients’ rights, as both share basic premises, such as the essentiality of social interactions and the perception of the other as a person with unique value, that gives rise to moral commands of respect and dignified treatment.
