Abstract

This paper examines international mediation and preventive diplomacy in a global order marked by intrastate conflicts, hybrid threats, and the climate crisis. Through a qualitative methodology with descriptive-analytical scope, based on a documentary review of treaties, reports, and specialized literature in the field, the study suggests that effectiveness cannot rely on the siloed efforts of an isolated mediator, but rather on a multilevel environment encompassing the UN, regional organizations, and non-state actors. It discusses the Women, Peace and Security agenda as a factor contributing to the durability of agreements, as well as Track II diplomacy and the challenges posed by environmental conflicts. It concludes that inclusive and coordinated prevention is essential to achieving sustainable peace.
